Substitution of coal in coking blend with bio-coal is a potential way to reduce fossil CO2 emissions from iron and steelmaking. The current study aims explore possible means counteract negative influence cokemaking. Washing kaolin coating bio-coals were conducted remove or bind part the compounds ash that catalyzes gasification coke CO2. To further how increase reactivity related more reactive carbon catalytic oxides ash, was produced corresponding amount added for carbonization. reaction behavior coals under carbonization conditions studied thermogravimetric analyzer equipped mass spectrometer during impact addition on fluidity optical dilatometer tests blends without ash. result shows washing will lower even dilatation. containing higher components effect bio-coke reactivity, especially acetic acid when start temperature less lowered. coated 5% do not significantly dilatation-relative reference blend. bio-cokes kaolin-containing potassium oxide comparison original bio-coal. torrefied has moderate lowering temperature, which indicates originating larger impact.
